Formula

  • Cost per request = price per image × variations × (1 + regeneration rate)
  • Daily cost = cost per request × requests per day
  • Monthly cost = daily cost × 30

Methodology

Image APIs bill per generated image, with the rate depending on resolution and quality tier. A higher-resolution or higher-quality setting can cost several times the base rate, so enter the rate for the setting you actually ship.

Two things inflate real-world cost: generating several variations so a human can choose, and regenerating when nothing is usable. Both are modelled here because they routinely double or triple the naive estimate.

If you also run a language model to write or refine the prompt, price that separately with the token calculators and add it to this figure.

Example: 300 image requests a day

  1. At $0.04 per image with 2 variations and a 25% regeneration rate, each request generates 2.5 images on average.
  2. Cost per request: $0.04 × 2 × 1.25 = $0.10.
  3. At 300 requests a day that is $30 a day, or about $900 a month.

Frequently asked questions

What drives the price per image?

Resolution, quality tier and model generation. A standard-quality square image is typically the cheapest option; high-quality or large formats can cost several times as much.

Why include a regeneration rate?

Because few production workflows ship the first render. Counting the discarded attempts is the difference between a theoretical estimate and your actual invoice.

Is self-hosting an image model cheaper?

It can be at very high volume, but you pay for GPU hours whether or not they are busy. Divide your monthly GPU cost by the images you expect to produce and compare that with the per-image rate here.

Do edits and variations cost the same as new images?

Usually yes — most providers bill any generated output at the standard per-image rate, including edits, inpainting and upscales.

Are these prices always up to date?

The presets reflect widely published list prices and are reviewed periodically, but providers adjust them and offer discounts for batch processing, cached input and committed spend. Model availability, pricing and specifications may change. Verify pricing directly with the provider before making business decisions.

What happens when a provider launches a new model?

Model names and rates live in one central configuration, so a new model appears in every relevant dropdown as soon as it is added. Page URLs stay provider-based rather than version-based, so no link ever goes stale when a model generation changes.

Does the calculator send my data anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded, stored or logged.
